The African Underground All-Stars are a live band formed though Nomadic Wax Records that invites many of the top African MCs to perform with them. At the 2008 Trinity International Hip Hop Festival, African Underground will perform with Baye Musa (Senegal), Azbac (Senegal) and Krukid (Tanzania).
Baye Musa – a.k.a. Nubian Musa, he was born and raised in Senegal. He moved to American in 2003 to pursue his passion for rhyme in the music industry. Originally part of the Senegalese super-group Wageble, Musa “believes that the truth if hiding behind the rhyme; that the music can express out pain, rage, struggle.” He often raps in Wolof, French, English and Spanish. http://www.myspace.com/nubianmusa
Azbac – A sharply intelligent MC focusing on social ills. “In the concerts we let (the audience) know that people don’t got health insurance (and) people don’t got food,” he said. “We give you the information so if you go to vote (then) you don’t vote for this person.” He also raps in French and Wolof. www.myspace.com/azbac1
Krukid – This Ugandan MC gained fame in 2007 being chosen as part of the Rawkus 50, fifty exceptional talents that the newly re-launched Rawkus Records is promoting. He started off with his Ugandan crew, Urban Life, winning a national radio contest, and although he mainly listened to gangsta rap when he was introduced to hip hop, he focuses more now on raising awareness of African issues in his music. www.myspace.com/krukid
