Beatbox Workshop with BeatBurgerBand

Beatbox Workshop

Human beatboxing is the art how to perform as the whole band using only your mouth. Under the leadership of one of the most respected Czech beatboxers, Jaro Cossiga – who has led workshops from the Japanese mountains at Mina Tanaka, to the Mati?ní Street ghetto and even New York City high schools – the participants will learn the basics and beatbox tricks. The workshop will begin with a performance of all the basic sounds and noises that the human mouth can produce and that can be incorporated into rhythms. Beginners are welcome but more advanced techniques will be taught including working with the microphone and preparing for performances or beatbox battles. All workshop participants receive a gift as the first Czech beatbox album Beat Apetit – Fany and Nasty by Jaro Cossiga.

Jaro Cossiga is considered a beatbox pioneer in the Czech Republic and gradually is gaining fame in the European context and in the world – as a member of the New York Beatboxer Entertainment, European Beatbox Allstar and Czech Beatbox Allstars. He seeks to move beatboxing into various interesting directions – from slam poetry evenings, beatboxing connects with poetry. He worked with very diverse group of musicians – classical, orchestration and others. He spent five years of developing beatbox profesional theatre for the Czech ARCHA Lab, performed in TRIBECA Performing Art Center, New York, in 2006. Just 50 days ago, he recorded the beatbox album Hop’n’Nob in New York City, and has supported artists such as the Sugar Hill Gang, Snoop Dog, 50 Cent, Afu-ra, Bauchklang, Kila Kela and Kenny Muhammed.

The beatbox workshop will be co-taught by other BeatBurgerBand members Nasty InDustry, Jony Typek and sound man Kuzhell who will be on hand to answer questions about how to shape the sound of beatboxing with equipment.
