DJ SYBIRO:
One-Way Flight to the Groove
After years of b-boying and crate digging, DJ Syiro – born Fyodr ‘Fed’ Slowchessky in Moscow, Russia – started DJing on Moscow’s Radio Rakurs ( www.rakurs.ru) in 1996. But the real departure point to the Groove galaxy was only a couple of years later in Moscow’s subway where he met two African musicians – Andre Pelenda ( www.kimbata.livejournal.com) and Akim Mabaya (www.compatriotes.livejournal.com). Through that contact, he started playing bass bass with different Hip-Hop/Funk/Reggae/Afrobeat-oriented bands in Russia such as Sun Music, Kimbata, Safety Magic, Jah Soldiers, Compatriotes and Simba Vibration to name a few. Through those years, he successfully performed around the country, sharing the stage with the likes of Mad Professor, Marksheider Kunst and Jah Division. Even while touring, he couldn’t stop collecting records and from time to time he spun them for listeners of Jazz FM, Radio of Russia, Echo of Moscow and other local stations.
Sybiro moved to France in 2001 wishing to learn more about the BEAT from the artists of huge African Diaspora of Paris. His dream soon comes true when he finally began to play and record with great musicians of Youssou N’Dour, Salif Keita, Cesaria Evora and Papa Wemba’s bands. In the same time he still perfects his DJ skills promoting dopiest grooves from around the world as a guest-DJ on Radio Latina and Radio Nova. In Paris DJ Sybiro also takes his first steps in to sound production at MC Solaar’ studio where he spends some months co-producing Fatima CIA’ tracks (Hip-Hop pioneers from Congo-Kinshasa: (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd7__Z_j5Lo) and making beats for some others French MC’s initiating by studio’ sound-wizard Mikey Moss from the legendary Democrates D. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZevpUf_czE). In other words, I talk about the man for whom listening/playing music and breathing became the same thing from a long time ago…
After many years of staying faithful to the groove, things were beginning to take shape for Sybiro as an artist. In 2004 he comes back in Russia and creates “Groove Connection” with DJ Kostorius – a soundsystem style project which unites MC’s, DJ’s, beat-boxers and musicians in famous Gogol’ Club every Thursday. These weekly party-sessions naturally became a birthplace for probably the first Global Hip-Hop names in Moscow: DJ Kostorius’ Drip Brothers (for now it’s 7-pieces band!) with MC’s Lucky Lion (Venezuela) & MC/DJ X-No (Cameroon) (www.myspace.com/dripbrothers) and DJ Sybiro’ Lokole with three gifted MC’s from Congo-Kinshasa. Sybiro produces beats for Lokole and they perform here and there before were invited for longtime residence in Siberian club Africa (Barnaul city) in 2006 when Sybiro’ nickname was born as well. Siberia is the Motherland of DJ’s ancestors but he stayed there only for a few times – his adventurous character and passion for music constantly pushes him to travel and perform in China, Holland, Israel, Russia, Italy, France and finally in US where he lives and works in Queens, NY from the last year sharing/mixtaping his taste for dopiest sound: www.myspace.com/djsybiro .
