Synopsis:
Hip Hop may have been born in America, but it is growing up in Africa. Fangafrika is a stylized look at the festival in Ouaga, in Burkina Faso, where Africa’s best and brightest rappers gather using hip hop to tackle the serious issues facing Africans everywhere. The film is a who’s who in African hip hop, from veterans like Pee Froiss, Daara J and PBS to up and coming hot acts. All are creating a dynamic new African identity for the mutable genre called hip hop.

Bios:

Renaud Lioult is a graphic designer, dj, and founding member of Staycalm!, a Paris-based artistic collective.
Guillaume Mouillé is an art-director, dj and also founding member of Staycalm!.
Since 2000 Staycalm! has produced exhibitions, screenings, workshops and parties to promote activist music.
Staycalm! has released the first multimedia documentary about west african hip hop, “Fangafrika, voice of the voiceless”, which presents Africa’s best and brightest rappers using hip hop to tackle the serious issues facing Africans everywhere.
